Local shelter seeks assistance after seizing animals from hoarder

Tails Humane Society (THS) in DeKalb, Illinois, took over the care of 97 dogs, 150 cats and various birds over the weekend from a hoarder's house in Rochelle, Illinois.

THS needs help in the following areas:

  • Money for medical bills
  • Blankets
  • Towels
  • Newspapers
  • Paper towels
  • Food bowls
  • Bleach
  • Garbage bags
  • Volunteers to care for the animals from 7:30am until 9pm.

Dog snatcher alert for the north side of Chicago

During the past few weeks there have been reports of a man attempting to steal dogs from north side neighborhoods. On the evening of Monday, September 17th, the suspect exited his vehicle and approached an Uptown resident who was walking his dog at the time. According to the resident, the suspect claimed the dog was his and attempted to physically take the dog away. The suspect fled after being fought off. The incident was reported to area police, and the assailant’s description matched that of a man suspected in similar incidents as well as other suspicious activities.

MAKE/MODEL: OLDER MAROON PLYMOUTH MINIVAN
LICENSE NUMBER: G13 5291

DESCRIPTION OF SUSPECT:
WHITE MALE
HEIGHT: 5’10”
WEIGHT: 200 LBS
HAIR: DARK AND THINNING
AGE: 50-55

The suspect drives a maroon minivan that appeared to be several years old. The make of the vehicle may be a Chrysler/Dodge/Plymouth variety, and appeared to be in poor condition.

WHAT YOU CAN DO:

Be on the lookout for suspicious behavior from anyone matching this description. If you see anyone who matches this description behaving suspiciously, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY and note as much information as possible, including location, time and license plate number if possible. DO NOT CONFRONT THIS MAN! It is unknown what this man’s intentions are, whether he may be armed, and what other activities he may be involved in. Anyone who engages in animal theft should be considered extremely dangerous.

Remind people of the dangers of leaving their dogs tethered outdoors, even in their own yards. Most importantly, keep your eyes open for anything out of the ordinary. Public awareness is one of the best weapons in the fight against situations like this.

Heartland Animal Shelter seeks funds for surgery
