Richard Smith has written for several major publications, including Cosmopolitan, The New York Times, and Playboy, and written several books, including The Dieter’s Guide to Weight Loss Before, During and After Sex. His newest title, Your Cat’s Just Not That Into You (see review above), is Smith’s homage to all of his friends and acquaintances (himself included) who have fooled themselves into thinking their cats truly admire them. He lives in New York City with his golden-haired Tabby, Dinah.

Tails: What was your inspiration for Your Cat’s Just Not That Into You?
RS: Many of my friends think their cat worships them, when it’s actually the other way around.
Tails: Did you really start a website for deluded cat guardians? What happened to it?
RS: No more. Too many sobbing [guardians] complained that their cat was just not that into them.
Tails: What is your cat Dinah like? Is she into you?
RS: I have surrendered to Dinah’s charm…I openly worship her.
Tails: If you had to pick one word to describe cats what would it be?
RS: Cuddly.
Tails: Are we really slaves to our cats?
RS: Yes. Because they actually give us so much: Their beauty, their furriness and, best of all, their love (in a perverse sort of way).
