For the past two weeks I’ve been working on a humorous story about pets who imagine themselves to be superheroes. However, a true canine superhero ended up taking center stage, and I need to put on my serious hat, tell his story, and ask for your help.
Tyler is a seven-year-old Australian Shepherd service dog. His person, Valorie Marks, is disabled, and Tyler is her lifeline. Tyler also works as a therapy dog, certified via an organization called Paws’itive Teams. Through Paws’itive Teams, Tyler and Valorie work with children who have special needs, as well as with the “Wounded Warrior” program for returning military vets suffering from PTSD. And, in the capacity of a service dog, Tyler and Valorie also visit cancer patients undergoing chemo.
So, it was a shock to all who know and love Tyler to discover this past week that Tyler himself now has cancer. His rare form of lymphoma is treatable and he immediately began chemo. The challenge is that Valorie is on disability––she cannot afford the chemo treatments, and she needs our help.
A cancer treatment fund has been set up to help Tyler via Surf Dog Ricochet. The SURFice dog is an initiative of Puppy Prodigies, and is a tax-exempt organization under section 501(C)3 of the U.S. Internal Revenue Code. 100% of your donation (minus PayPal fees) will go directly to pay for Tyler’s cancer treatment.

Tyler is a true superhero. Please help us give back to him. Thank you!
