Chicago: Paramount Theatre Teams Up with Animal Shelter

The Paramount Theatre in Aurora, Illinois is running a production of Annie—directed by Rachel Rockwell—from November 21–December 30. What makes the Paramount Theatre’s production unique? Mikey, the dog playing Sandy, was not always in show biz—the adorable mutt was rescued from neglect by renowned dog trainer William Berloni.

Productions of Annie all over the country promote a tradition of giving back to animal welfare causes, and in addition to featuring a rescue dog as their main canine star, they’re also using the play to encourage pet adoption and responsible pet guardianship. During specific performances, the Paramount Theatre will have special canine guests that will be available in the lobby during intermission for possible adoption (if only it were so easy to just pick up a doggie and a show). They hope to successfully place several dogs into forever homes over the course of the show’s run.

Seeing Annie is a perfect way for families to spend the holidays, and it’s a great way to help promote the benefits of rescue and companion animals!
