Louisville Metro Animal Services (LMAS) and Harley Davidson Louisville (1700 Arthur Street) are teaming up with Slugger City Bully Buddies, Derby City Dog Rescue and Saving Sunny for a “Bikes & Bullies Adoption Event” this Saturday, November 3rd from 9:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. The goal for the event is to bring awareness to bully breeds, break many myths and stereotypes and to find forever homes for as many animals as possible, including those involved in a recent alleged animal abuse case that LMAS is investigating. “Approximately one fifth of the dogs that come into the Manslick facility are Pit Bulls or Pit mixes,” said LMAS Director Justin Scally. “Many have run into a difficult situation to no fault of their own and we really need people to step up and give these dogs a second chance at a loving home.”
Pit Bull and bully breeds are one of the most misunderstood animals. Sadly, the reasoning behind these myths is due to the way people treat, raise, fight and breed pit bulls. There will be many bully breed dogs available for adoption from all organizations. These community partners believe that education is the path to change.
The bully mixes available for adoption through LMAS include: Victims from the alleged animal abuse case, a dog that was abandoned and chained without access to food or water, a beautiful brother and sister longing to stay together after being surrendered by their owner and many more.
Sadly, many other bullies have similar stories and have been through tough situations. All of these dogs along with others from our community partners will be given a second chance and the opportunity to find a new home at the Big Heads…Big Hearts…Big Hogs! adoption event.
In addition to these incredible adoptables, there is a pancake breakfast beginning at 9:00 a.m. and Slugger City will offer CGC (Canine Good Citizenship) Certification for all pit owners from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. Harley Davidson will also have special discounts on doggy apparel.
