In 2000 I published my first issue of TAILS in Chicago. It was one of the most exciting things I had ever accomplished— literally a dream come true.
Back then, I used to deliver every magazine myself. One day I walked into a shelter and saw the resource pages from TAILS ripped out and pinned on the bulletin board. The woman at the desk told me they referred to it all day long and relied on it “like the Bible” when people had questions. She was over the moon that we delivered free magazines to hand out to their clients. It was one of my proudest moments, and I knew we were on to something.
Soon after the magazine took off here, fans began requesting TAILS in other places. We started exploring ways we could impact other cities.
What followed was a labor of love.
My vision was to create a network of local communities—a place where people who love pets could connect, get enlightened, have discussions, laugh, share advice, and just gather—like we do at the dog park.
My mission was to get interesting, entertaining, and useful information into people’s hands easily. Today, that desire remains front and center. And while I absolutely believe in the printed word, I also recognize the changing needs of our audience.
In 2013, TAILS will stop publishing printed magazines in every city except for our flagship, Chicago. We are excited to grow our digital presence and expand our reach, and we are looking forward to returning to our roots—celebrating the pets and people of the Windy City. For everyone who has supported us in the other cities we have served, the wonderful local resources, event listings, and informative content you have come to rely on us for over the years are still available (plus a lot more). We encourage you to visit our online community at TailsInc.com and stay part of the TAILS family. It won’t be the same without you.
Without your partnership we could not help as many animals or touch as many lives as we do. We have all accomplished so much together … We can’t stop now!
Wishing you and your pets a happy, healthy, and safe holiday season filled with peace and laughter. May 2013 be everyone’s BEST year yet.
With gratitude and love—
