Don’t miss out on any of these special pet holidays:
Pit Bull Awareness Month. Pit Bull Awareness Day isn’t until the end of the month, but as of last year, all of October is dedicated to spreading awareness about these beautiful and loving dogs. Here are ten ways to celebrate.
Adopt-A-Dog Month. “What can an adopted dog bring to your life? There are as many responses to that question as there are dogs in this world!” says the American Humane Association, who sponsors this holiday. We wholeheartedly agree!
Adopt-A-Shelter-Dog Month. If you’re going to adopt a dog this month, make it a shelter dog! Not only will you be saving a life, pet rescue is good for your health!
National Animal Safety and Protection Month. This month, do your part to protect all animals—from the deer in your backyard to the cat next to you on the couch. Here are some safety tips from April (Pet Safety Awareness Month).
National Pet Wellness Month. We’re always concerned with keeping our pets at their healthiest, and all October celebrate this by going the extra mile on that weekend walk, trading the caloric treats for some fresh, homemade and healthy snacks, and per usual, piling on the cuddles. Visit TAILS Wellness page for ideas and tips on the best life for you and your pet.
1st Week: National Walk Your Dog Week. Take an extra-long and leisurely walk with your dog this week and spend some time appreciating the crisp air, the changing leaves, and that wiggly-waggly tail!
October 4: World Animals Day. This special day was first celebrated on October 4, 1931 in Florence, Italy. The date was chosen because October 4 is the feast day of Francis of Assisi, patron saint of animals and the environment. Visit World Animal Day’s official website for information and a list of events taking place all over the world.
October 16: National Feral Cat Day. Created by Alley Cat Allies this is a day to promote humane care for feral cats! Learn about controlling the feral cat population through trap-neuter-return and also check out the many events going on.
October 27: National Pit Bull Awareness Day. Bring attention to these loving and special breeds and help combat the mistaken assumptions that are made about them. Visit Bless the Bullys to learn more.
