Here’s what’s going on this month in special pet holidays:
National Service Dog Month. Every day millions of service dogs work hard to improve humans’ lives, and September is the month to recognize just how special these amazing dogs are. Learn about the USA’s first monument to military working dogs.
National Disaster Preparedness Month. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has put together a website full of ways to make sure you’re prepared in the event of an emergency. Although it’s not pet specific, it’s a great reminder to double check all your pet preparedness plans. Not sure where to start? Here are some helpful references:
September 9: National Pet Memorial Day. Established by the International Association of Pet Cemeteries, set aside this special day to remember those pets you have lost. Here are some ideas for ways to honor and celebrate deceased pets.
September 28: World Rabies Day. Sponsored by the Global Alliance for Rabies Control. Visit the official holiday website for information and ways to get involved.
September 23-29: National Dog Week. A whole week dedicated to celebrating the amazing canines in your life! (As if you needed another excuse to shower your doggie with love and adoration!)
September 23-29: Deaf Pet Awareness Week. Visit Petfinder to learn about deaf pets—from what makes them different from hearing pets (answer: not much!) to how to go about adopting your very own lovable deaf pet.
