Monty, Willow, and Holly accompanied the Queen as she left the palace with James Bond (a.k.a. 007 actor Daniel Craig) on her way to the Olympic Arena, and boy were those royal pooches cute. (The Queen has three other dogs—“Dorgis” (Daschund/Corgi mixes) named Cider, Candy, and Vulcan. They were not part of the show, but we’re sure they would have been just as memorable! A production official for the shoot told Britain’s Daily Mirror that, “Yes, they were the Queen’s Corgis. We had others on stand-by if it was required but we never needed to use them.”
According to The Official Website of The British Monarchy, “Formal portraits from the 17th century onwards show kings, queens and their children happily posing with their beloved animals, from Pugs to Greyhounds, King Charles Spaniels to Corgis.” The Queen was given a Corgi (named Susan) as a gift for her 18th birthday, and has been a loyal Corgi lover ever since. Despite her busy schedule and hoards of help, it is reported that she still looks after all her dogs by herself as much as possible.
