Olympic Pets

July 20, 2012 by Tails Magazine in Contests, Fun Stuff, Home with 11 Comments

After a long wait, the 2012 Olympic Games in London are finally almost here–only 7 days until the Opening Ceremonies! We’re pretty excited to watch our favorite athletes and countries compete for Olympic gold, and we’re sure you are too.

Here’s a reminder that aside from their seemingly superhuman physical abilities, Olympic athletes are just like us–they love their pets!

And because we love hooking you up with fun (and free!) stuff:

NBC is doing a special giveaway for TAILS readers! Leave a comment below answering this question: “If your pet were an Olympic athlete, what sport would he or she play?” A winner will be selected at random to receive an NBC Olympics Prize Pack!

Here’s what it includes:

  • 2012 Olympics NBC Duel Flags Pin
  • Trophy Cap
  • 2012 Olympics Team USA Backpack
  • ¾ Sleeve Raglan T-Shirt
  • Olympic Calendar

We’re looking forward to reading your entries!

Our boy would compete in equestrian show jumping… as the horse! He loves agility, which has its roots in show jumping, and is practically tall enough to pass as a small horse.

My deaf pit bull mix Noelle and my deaf foster dog Ziggy would
both compete in Wrestling. They seem to think it’s the best sport ever!

Without a doubt, my two dogs would be in the sprinting events at the track and field competitions, especially if there was cheese involved…..I have never seen two little dogs move so fast as when I open the deli drawer in the fridge!

    100-meter sprint — no question!
They’re Greyhounds and would smoke the human competition.
But, the only marathons they do are sleeping!
Is “couch diving” a recognized sport?

Elsa would be great in a sport called ‘Fly Trapping’. She literally stalks a fly that is in my home and when the fly least it expects it she pounces it and catches it in her mouth, slimes it and then spits it. Elsa will keep it in between her paws until she shows me her prize catch of the day. She would also be magnificent in ‘Fetch’. Nothing stands in her way as she is in retrieval mode of a ball or squeeky toy. I call her my “Moose on Ice” because of her natural klutziness.

My two Min Pin’s would compete in the equestrian show jumping. They have a lot of energy and love to jump!

My Shep Cayce would be a gold medal endurance runner! Everything about him is golden!

if my pet were an olympic athlete, she would be into kayaking. her legs are short. her confirmation is shoddy, but i believe she has a lot of upper body strength to paddle (doggy) her way through… she’s quite intuitive and her vision is keen. (chihuahua, ‘pig pig’)
