Recently, I completed my first and final year at the University of Miami School of Law. Though my grades were good and I was doing well, I began to realize that I had no passion or drive for the law. I felt rather ambivalent about the whole thing, and after some soul searching, I chose to move forward in a new direction.
I’ve always loved writing, and I missed getting to write as myself (as opposed to formal, dry legal writing). I became a regular columnist for TheDailyMuse.com—a lifestyle website geared toward young, professional women. I was instantly reminded why I enjoy writing, and I found myself inspired to pursue it further.
When the opportunity to join the TAILS team came up, I was still finishing law school. In fact, I began my new role as editor the same week I started taking finals! Despite the chaos, I loved my new job from day one. I am honored to take part in furthering the TAILS mission—helping animals is something I am extremely committed to.
I grew up always having dogs in my family, and I appreciated from an early age just how special it is to share your life with pets. My dogs were always there for me—I could tell them anything, and they were always glad to comfort me if I was upset. Whatever I wanted to do with them, they were happy and grateful. As I got older, it was comforting to know they had always been there for me.
I would be remiss if I didn’t introduce my puppy Reggie, as she is taking my new position very seriously—she’s quite excited to help me out in any way, especially tasting new treats and testing toys! Reggie was born in a shelter in Miami, and my boyfriend and I adopted her last summer. She is adorable, smart, and, I’ll admit, a little spoiled. She has been the most wonderful addition to our little family, and she has reminded me of all the ways having a pet can impact our lives.
Working for TAILS I’ve found the passion and drive I was missing with law. I feel very fortunate to be able to spend every day working to make a difference in the lives of animals, and I am so happy to be here as the new editor!
I look forward to hearing from you, and welcome your comments, questions, ideas, and more.
