Devin’s Tails: Catitude!

Devin’s definition of catitude: Um. Huh. Well, see it’s like this. Hmm. Oh, heck, just spend two minutes with any cat and you’ll totally get it.

My new urban fantasy novel, PRETTY SACRIFICES, has a humorous subplot about a teenage witch named Kaia who adopts an orphaned mountain lion cub. Kaia’s intent is to care for Little Orphan Annie until the lion can be released back into the wild. Using her psychic gifts, Kaia tries to teach Annie how to hunt, protect herself, and generally do what mountain lions must do in order to survive. The challenge is that Annie has catitude and quickly gets the upper paw, so to speak. Eventually, one of the highest supernatural beings on the planet—a Caretaker of the World—has to step in and put Annie in her place.

I bet all cat people on planet Earth wish they had a supernatural Caretaker to perform similar miracles in their households.

With this in mind, I asked my Facebook friends if they would share some photos that expressed the catitude of their own cats. Please enjoy!

This is Nightmare. His person, Karen Wingert Youmans suggests we should all be careful what we name our pets. Her daughter, Alyssa Youmans, took this photo.

Kathy Kimmel’s Flint says, “Don’t EVEN think about taking my scratching post away from me! Doom on your furniture if you try…”

Connie Ceberek’s Jennie is in the sink asking, “Can’t you brush your teeth somewhere else?”

Dee Ambrose-Stahl’s Maine Coon Isaiah says, “You dare interrupt my slumber? You shall pay dearly.”

Karen Jones’s Baby Turner is learning catitude at a young age…he’s killing his toy.

Annie Hancock’s Lucy lets it be known in no uncertain terms that, “I’m the boss in this house and you’re just my staff.”

Dianne LaBarre McCormick’s cat Mia says, “You may eat your dinner on this table after I have eaten mine.”

Jackie Ceberek’s cat Betsy is very sweet, however she’s probably thinking, “When I get bigger, I can tear out this screen, and then I can play with those birds!”

But we love them anyway. And they use this fact to their advantage.
