Tiny Beyonce has gotten international recognition as the world’s tiniest puppy and one very tiny, very loud voice for animal welfare. Her mom came to The Grace Foundation in El Dorado Hills, CA as a stray. This 8-month-old Dachshund mix puppy was pregnant as it turns out, with 5 puppies of her own. Tiny Beyonce was the last and was expected to be stillborn. The vets had to perform CPR, but they revived her. They say when she was born, she fit into a teaspoon along with her food. Other than her size, she is now very much like her siblings. She eats – solid food – and sleeps and runs and plays. Just like the big puppies! At about 6 weeks old she is still just over 4 inches long. Doctors don’t expect her to get any larger than a pound to a pound and a half.
But, what a racket this tiny puppy has been able to make! The attention she is garnering shines a bright spotlight on animal rescue and the plight of rescue animals. Tiny Beyonce’s message is simple, take care of the amazing animals who give us so much. Here are three ways you can help.
– Adopt, don’t shop. Adopt from a shelter or rescue to save an animal in need. The next time you need a new furry companion, go to a shelter or rescue. The pet you save will be forever grateful and they will make sure you know it!
– Have your pet spayed or neutered. More than 3.5 million pets are euthanized every year. Spay/neuter can dramatically decrease pet overpopulation. And, it’s the healthy thing to do for your pets!
– Support local animal rescue in any way you can. These organizations don’t only need money, they need resources. If you cannot donate money, maybe you can donate time or services. Check out some specific suggestions here.
Tiny Beyonce has her own fund, I’m a Survivor (named after the Beyonce song, of course!). Through it, The Grace Foundation is conducting a Mother’s Day Drive to raise funds for all the needy animals who come to their organization. But The Grace Foundation is quick to point out they are not only looking for support for their own foundation. There are many worthy organizations that help the animals who cannot help themselves – every day of the week, every week of the year – if Tiny Beyonce can bring them attention too, more power to this teeny, tiny puppy!
