Patrick is also one of the most spoiled member of our hospice family. Despite all the entreaties to not feed him, just like all hospice dogs, he's a bit on the chubby side (I wonder why!). Hospice can be a sad job; it affects our wonderful staff and having a hospice dog around to spoil a bit and love helps us when the days get a big rough and we're saddended by the loss of yet another patient we cared about and cared for. Nothing like taking Patrick for a walk on a beautiful day to help me grasp what a treasure the gift of life is and feel good that we helped someone pass in peace and with dignity; surrounded by people and animals that cared about them. Good boy Patrick!
