Jefferson Animal Hospitals (JAH) will host a free health fair on May 12, 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., called People and Pets Staying Healthy Together. It will be held at their new Fern Creek location, 6902 Bardstown Road in the Cedar Springs Shopping Centre. The goal is to educate the community on both animal and human health and wellness. Pet owners can bring their pets for free screenings and receive their own health screenings as well.
JAH is a leader in One Health, an American Veterinary Medical Association initiative that promotes the importance of both human and animal health/wellness. In addition to JAH medical staff, who will screen animals for diabetes, high blood pressure, tooth decay, arthritis, etc.; nurses will be on hand to provide services and information to pet owners, including flu shots, blood glucose readings, body condition scores and mammograms.
Pat Kennedy Arrington, DVM, CVFP, who owns JAH-Fern Creek and its sister hospital, Jefferson Animal Hospital Regional Emergency Center, is one of only 15 veterinarians and animal-related professionals in the U.S. certified in the new field of Veterinary Family Practice. In October she was named Veterinarian of the Year by the Kentucky Veterinary Medical Association (KVMA).
“People and Pets Staying Healthy Together is a free resource to the entire community,” said Dr. Arrington. “We are involving a variety of vendors and nonprofit groups that offer pet services, and we will provide valuable information that will allow people to be proactive about their own health and about the well-being of their animal companions.”
