Uggie—Movie Star and Hero to the Dogs—set to retire

February 7, 2012 by Tails Magazine in Health & Wellness, Home with 0 Comments

Uggie, the canine movie star best known for his work in The Artist, is retiring from the big screen—but one of his trainers has revealed that his retirement is also due in part to a mysterious illness.

“It’s very sad but he is suffering from a mystery shaking syndrome,” said trainer Omar Von Muller. “It is a neurological disorder and we’ve spent thousands on vets’ bills trying to figure out what is causing it, but the experts don’t really know.”

Uggie, who is expected to open the Oscars with Billy Crystal, started suffering from the condition shortly before filming The Artist. His trainer said it comes and goes, and is worse when he is relaxed.

Doctors do know the illness is neurological, and that he does not seem to be in any pain.

“It is a shame this has happened when he is getting the biggest success of his career,” said Von Muller, “but we feel the best thing to do is to retire him after the Oscars.”

We all wish Uggie the best and hope he enjoys his retirement.
