While the New Year often means weight loss resolutions for humans, Nestle hopes to help you and your pet lose those extra pounds together this year. The world’s biggest food group (which owns both Purina and Jenny Craig) has announced its initiative to help whip pets and their people into shape.
Dubbed “Project Pet Slim Down,” the campaign includes a microsite where visitors can follow the weight loss journeys of five overweight cats and five overweight dogs in a reality series.
With two-thirds of the U.S. adult population overweight and more than half our pets struggling with obesity, Nestle/Purina hopes to inspire pet parents to make a commitment to health for themselves—and their pets. According to ProjectPetSlimDown.com, veterinarians recommend a healthy pet weight loss of one-to-two percent per week. The website has articles on pet weight loss as well as visual guides on what the healthy shapes for dogs and cats look like.
The easy-to-use and fun website allows users to create a profile, share photos, track progress, and have access to exercise and weight loss tips and resources to make their plan a success. The site is integrated with Facebook, so you can share Fido’s and Fifi’s progress with your friends and family.
