Sit. Stay. Read Shelter Puppies!
When I first picked up Michael Kloth’s Shelter Puppies I expected something completely different. Sure, the adorable black puppy on the cover drew me in, but the book is so much more than just adorable photos.
Kloth’s book delves deeper into the mission of promoting the adoption of shelter pets. From his personal story of his beloved childhood mutt Nicky, to his work as a volunteer at the Woodford Humane Society in Versailles, Kentucky to his beautiful photos and accompanying puppy stories, Kloth succeeds with Shelter Puppies on many levels.
Kloth makes a strong case for adopting a shelter dog and helps readers understand the joys, challenges and responsibilities that come with adopting one of these lovable pups. His personal connection to his photographic subjects is evident – each photo seems to truly capture the essence of the puppies’ personalities.
Included at the end of the book is an index of each puppy photographed and his or her adoption story. As a bonus, there are photos of some of the adopted puppies with their new families.
As if it couldn’t get any better, Kloth is also donating $0.25 from each copy sold in the U.S. to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA). If you are looking for a conversational piece for the coffee table or a wonderful gift for the dog lover in your life, consider picking up Shelter Puppies.
