The staff at the Humane Society of North Iowa was blown away when they received an amazing Christmas surprise last week – more than a ton of dog food!
The generous donor was Garth Jordan of Osage, Iowa who dropped off 50, 40-pound bags of dog food at the shelter last week.
The donated food will account for roughly half of the Humane Society’s annual food supply.
Like many animal shelters, the Humane Society does not receive state or federal funding. It relies on donations in order to save animals in need.
Jordan’s generosity will help the shelter dogs avoid a common problem: digestive upset caused by constant changes in diet. By eating the same food for six months the dogs will become healthier and therefore also more adoptable.
Jordan said he made the donation because he just wanted to do something kind in memory of one of his beloved former dogs.
What a true hero and a great example of what the Holiday Season is all about!
