This week is National Animal Shelter (and Rescue!) Appreciation Week, a week in which we celebrate the true heroes who work tirelessly day in and day out for homeless animals. Show some love to your local animal shelter or rescue group by trying one of these four easy ideas this week (or any week for that matter!)
Idea 1: Made with Love
Take this opportunity to show shelter and rescue staff how much you care by baking them a batch of cookies or bringing them a catered lunch one day. Your simple act of kindness will surely bring a smile to their faces and let them know they are appreciated.
Idea 2: Put it In Writing
Submit a letter of praise and thanks to the editor of your local paper. A published letter of thanks and praise will not only make shelter and rescue staff feel valued, it will also bring awareness to the homeless pet population in your community and the great work being done by your local shelter.
Idea 3: Embrace Social Media
Use the power of Facebook or Twitter to send positive messages and love to your favorite shelter or rescue. Post a message on on your profile and tag the shelter or rescue’s page for maximum impact. You could also create a YouTube video or photo montage to share your special message of gratitude with the world.
Idea 4: Give
Most shelters and rescues are short-staffed and need all of the help they can get. Donate your time, talents, or money to lighten the load and make workers feel like there are others in the fight for the animals with them.
These everyday heroes deserve as much kindness, love, and respect that we can give. Be sure to not only remember these special individuals during Shelter (and Rescue!) Appreciation Week, but also throughout the year.
