The staff at the Humane Society of Broward County have opened up their shelter (and their hearts) to more than four dozen dogs from Puetro Rico after Hurricane Irene damaged the Save a Sato shelter in San Juan.

The dogs are mixed breeds with the majority of them being puppies or young adults.

The Broward Shelter has had a long-standing relationship with the Shelter in San Juan and quickly jumped to the rescue when the plea for help was put out.

The dogs will be spayed or neutered, as well as microchipped before being adopted out.
