August is notoriously one of the hottest months of the year. Don’t make your doggie drool and beg when she sees you relaxing on the deck with your ice-cold beer and delicious frozen desserts … instead, let her join in the frosty fun! Try these easy recipes guaranteed to make your four-legged companion wag for joy while staying cool.

2 cups low-salt beef or chicken broth

2/3 cup water Small rawhide sticks

Equipment: Ice cube trays

Directions: Mix water with broth and pour into ice cube trays. Cover entire tray with plastic wrap, as tight as possible. Gently push the rawhide, so it sticks straight up, through the plastic. Do this for each cube. Place in freezer until hardened. Serve cold.

Doggie Ice Cream

2 cups low-fat vanilla or plain yogurt

2-3 mashed bananas

2 tablespoons honey

Equipment: Ice cube trays

Directions: Mix ingredients together. Portion into an ice cube tray. Place in freezer until hardened. Serve in a bowl or outside because this treat can be messy.

A Dog-a-licious Dessert

4 cups rice milk

1 tablespoon vanilla extract

1 tablespoon honey or peanut butter Miniature dog biscuits

Equipment: Paper cupcake liners and muffin tin

Directions: Set cupcake liners into a muffin tin. In a large bowl, mix together all ingredients. Pour the mixture into the muffin cups. Place dog biscuit in each filled muffin tin. Place in freezer until hardened. To serve, remove paper liner and place treat in a bowl.
