There are many amazing stories of survival surfacing after the tornadoes that devastated Alabama on April 27, and this one is really one that hits you right in the heart.
Mason, a terrier mix, was in his family’s garage when the tornado picked him up and blew him away. Sometime between then and Monday, the pup — with two broken legs — found his way back to the house and was waiting on the porch when his owners, who had given up hope they would find him, came back to sift through debris.
“He’s got two broken legs and they’re distal radial ulnal fractures, they’ve not been able to be in alignment so neither one of them have healed so he had to crawl on two broken legs to get home,” Dr. Barbara Benhart, staff veterinarian at the Birmingham-Jefferson Co. Animal Control Shelter, told My Fox Alabama.
Phil Doster, also with the shelter, told the station, “this is probably the most dramatic we’ve seen as far as an injury in an animal that’s survived this long.”
