Hi Pet People:
So this weekend I’ll be in HEAVEN combining two of my most favorite things…animal rescue + fashion= Fashion for Paws 5th Annual Runway Show in Washington, D.C. The fur hits the catwalk this Saturday starting at 8 p.m. at the National Building Museum. All proceeds benefit the Washington Humane Society as the only open-access shelter in Washington, D.C. The amazing people of the Washington Humane Society provide comfort and care to nearly 30,000 animals in need each year through its programs and services. Not an easy task, that’s why their fundraisers are so important.
Besides raising much-needed funds, events like this also attract a crowd to get residents interested in pet adoption and to show off the beautiful “model” pets they have at the Washington Humane Society.
One love connection made at the event was with D.C.‘s own, 94.7 Fresh FM’s radio host Tommy McFly of “The Tommy Show.” He has a deep reason why this event is so important to him and why he volunteers on the event’s planning committee…he found his best friend Chip there! After spending months searching for a dog, Tommy was asked to walk the runway and cover the event for the radio show. When he saw Chip as an adoptable – it was instant chemistry- Tommy knew this was HIS dog. The next morning he woke up early and “hustled” to the Washington Humane Society to start the adoption process. According to Tommy, “It’s been a life changing friendship and amazing learning experience ever since.” A great “tail” of rescue now that Chip has a home and Tommy a wingman!
Speaking of love- my third great love is good food. You may be familiar with a little known cupcake shop called Georgetown Cupcakes or their hit show on TLC called D.C. Cupcakes. With the event, Georgetown Cupcake will sell a line of inspired cupcakes for Fashion for Paws in all locations through event day, donating 100% of the proceeds to Washington Humane Society…one word-YUM!
For more details on the Washington Humane Society or to purchase one of the few remaining VIP tickets please visit www.washhumane.org/F4PRunwayShow2011. The goal is to raise a million dollars..keep your paws and tails crossed that they do it! I’ll have a full recap next week- so tune in.
