After years of going in the litter box, my cat has begun pooping right next to it. We recently had to change the type of litter because I’m pregnant and can’t be exposed to regular cat litter. Should we switch back, try a new one, or will she get used to it?
Try switching back to the old litter, and make sure you have a non-pregnant person clean the litterbox. If the problem continues, it may also be possible to use an attractant to entice your cat back to the box. Check with your veterinarian for recommendations of effective attractants. Many are commercially available; some of the most effective attractants are made of lemongrass, catnip, valerian root, and honeysuckle. You may also need a veterinary examination to evaluate for medical problems that could be causing the problem.
