Ask the Vet with Dr Ann Hohenhaus

QuestionAfter years of going in the litterbox, my cat has begun pooping right next to it. We recently had to change the type of litter because I’m pregnant and cannot be exposed to regular cat litter. Should we switch back, try a new one, or will she get used to it?

AnswerCongratulations on your expected arrival. Boy, is your life about to change. One thing that shouldn’t change is the cat litter. Cats are very fussy about their litterboxes and a new litter may be just what they don’t like. The answer might be to have another family member in charge of changing the litter. Also be sure the litterbox is pristinely clean, as some cats will use only “new” litter.
