Is your pet food up to arf?
Texas Farm Products, a family-owned company that has created animal foods for 80 years, is one of the few pet food companies that has volunteered to be examined under the American Institute of Baking’s (AIB) standards for human-grade food.
The company, including their pet food division Precise Pet Products, received a “superior” ranking, the highest recognition available. The AIB judged on operational methods and personal practices, food safety, cleaning practices, pest control, and adequacy of food safety programs.
“We are firm believers that high quality ingredients make high quality pet food,” explains Mike Comption, vice president of operations. Precise Pet Products uses real chicken meal, for example, while many other food companies use chicken by-product, which includes heads and feet that are harder for pets to digest. All Precise chicken meal is also low-ash, which is better for the urinary tract of cats.
Like all Texas Farm Products, Precise pet foods are made in the United States, a rare feature among animal food today. Unlike pet food manufactured overseas, Precise has never been subject to recall. At Precise Pet Products’ on-site lab, both raw materials and finished products are sampled to ensure they are up to standards before they hit the shelves.
“We use probiotics,” says Comption, “similar to yogurt cultures, which improve digestion.”
Precise also uses chelated minerals, which absorb quickly into the bloodstream to ensure your pets gets all the micro-minerals they need, such as zinc, copper, manganese, cobalt, and iron. Additionally, the company only uses all-natural preservatives, like vitamins C and E, to maintain the freshness customers want without artificial chemicals. –Valerie Lute
