Cat ProfileDoes it feel like Sassy has a strange power over you sometimes? According to a new study by the University of Sussex, she just might! Researchers discovered that cats use a special type of purr when they want to overpower their guardians to get attention or food. The sound is different than their usual purr. It incorporates a high-pitched cry, which has a frequency similar to that of a human baby. Although you might find your cat’s cry annoying, it’s certainly difficult to ignore, so Sassy often ends up getting what she wants!

Trimming a poodle’s fur isn’t just about making a fashion statement.

According to Spott’s Canine Miscellany by Mike Darton (Abrams Image), “The original idea behind trimming a poodle as if it were a topiarized hedge was to shave the dog’s profusely thick coat to increase its agility—specifically to enable it to swim better through rivers and across lakes—while out hunting with its medieval aristocratic European owner. The ‘cuffs’ around the ankles and hips were left to protect against arthritis/rheumatism in the cold and draughty mansion or castle in which it was kenneled.”
